Crows
Brudenell Social Club
Support: CLT DRP, Heavy Lungs, Mother Said, Hank, Fossick
Following the release of their polished third album ‘Reason Enough’, Crows brought a bumper show to Brudenell Social Club. On their last trip to Yorkshire in 2022, they made Lending Room bounce. This gig however showed the band’s sound and ability to put on a show reaching new heights.
To start, Brudenell was treated to a wildly stacked line up of supporting bands. Fossick opened off the show with their debut full band show, delivering a tight, heavy, and noisy set; I can’t wait to see what’s next for the project. Hank kept the momentum going with a wall of sound reinforced by powerful guitar and vocals. Leeds-based Mother Said followed up on their return to Brudenell to deliver a confident and punchy set as the band’s leads sleuthed through the crowd. The energy was ‘turned up to eleven’ when Heavy Lungs took to the stage. The band’s lead, Danny Nedelko, transfixed the crowd with his intensity. There is a reason Idles wrote a song about him. The energy levels did not let up with CLT DRP, the self-proclaimed electro-punk renegades. Their moody and industrial sound entranced and left Leeds ready for the main event.
After starting off with the moody title track ‘Reason Enough’, Crows amped up the energy by showcasing another new gem in their post-punk crown - ‘Bored’. It was a packed set list with songs from all three of their albums holding their own. Cox’s head-shakingly political and personally charged lyrics, powered out over Crows sonically unique and commanding sound, and took Brudenell to a place of undiluted post-punk excellence.
As was expected, Crows put on an awesome show and it’s no wonder they have amassed a hardened following. For such an exceptional show though, there was room for more in Brudenell’s main room. Next time Crows fly to the land of the white rose, I implore you to go and experience the consistently intense energy and sound they fire out.
